The Joy of being a Technical Writer
Twenty-eight years back, I was often sliced into a kundi-sota (a stone made open bowl where ingredients are beaten by a stick). The grandma would add an unripe mango (ambi) and some mint leaves, and would beat it with stick. I used to obey (crush) and disobey (bump outside) few times, before settling in to serve my purpose.
The whole family will sit around and look at the chutney (home made sauce of chopped fruits, onions, spices and/or some vegetables) almost with lust. A young kid would watch it with all the world’s restlessness, a young lady will move to the bowl and lick it with her fingers, and the man would glance at it pretending that he is reading the newspaper.
....
....
But every cycle changes. Old order changes to yield place to a new one.
That was the time when technical writing had set foot on Indian shores. In next few years, there were many technical writers working for different companies in India. Suddenly, people had the time and temperament to write and read long manuals.
....
In this new ‘old order’, there are thousands of writers in India. The world has more words now.
I can feel the joy of being a technical writer.
