Technical writers at Open Text Corporation produce software documentation (including guides, technical notes, and online help) for users, system administrators, and software developers. This documentation is published in electronic and online form. A successful candidate will be expected to do research, organize projects, manage assignments, and work comfortably with software developers, product management, quality assurance, product designers, trainers, and support personnel. \r\n\r\nResponsibilities\r\n \r\n- Research, outline, and write documentation for existing documentation.\r\n- Develop information content for new products or solutions based on customer needs and goals.\r\n- Research and develop an understanding of the customer and product requirements.\r\n- Develop and maintain documentation plans and status reports for assigned projects.\r\n\r\nEducation \r\n\r\n- University degree or college diploma is relevant field.\r\n- Technical Writing diploma; or equivalent technical writing experience.\r\n\r\nSkills \r\n\r\n- Minimum of 5 years experience writing technical documentation. Preferably for software applications.\r\n- Sound knowledge and experience authoring in HTML and XML editing tools.\r\n- Excellent knowledge and experience with authoring tools such as Adobe FrameMaker, MadCap Flare, WebWorks ePublisher, Epic Editor, and RoboHelp.\r\n- Knowledge of Version Management tools, such as SVN, Perforce, or VSS.\r\n- Excellent oral and written communication skills. \r\n- Excellent oral and written English language skills. \r\n- Ability to write in a structured authoring environment and single-sourcing. \r\n- Ability to write and design minimalist information.\r\n- Experience working in an agile development process.\r\n- Ability to create visual illustrations of concepts or processes.\r\n\r\nKnowledge \r\n\r\n- Sound knowledge of computer software, hardware, and the Internet. \r\n- Knowledge of computer development environments, operating systems, programming languages an asset.\r\n- Ability to gather information for a writing assignment from a variety of sources, including engineering and product management, to gain a strong functional understanding of the source information.\r\n- Knowledge of user personas and experience with customer research.\r\n- Ability to produce documentation of above-average clarity, minimal errors, completeness, and overall quality, within established deadlines.\r\n- Ability to define and follow documentation standards and best practices.\r\n- Ability to review documentation written by other team members to ensure clarity, completeness, accuracy, and overall quality.\r\n- Ability to contribute useful input to the project teams of which the individual is a member.\r\n- Good analytical and organizational skills including the ability to organize and prioritize tasks.\r\n- Ability to work independently as well as part of large distributed team. \r\n- Insight and interest in new technologies in Technical Communications. \r\n- Innovative thinking and knowledge of information design.\r\n- Experience working with Collaboration tools.\r\n- Knowledge of Business Process Management, Case Management, or Enterprise Information Management (EIM) products would be an asset.
